Alastair acted for a cyclist whose wheel dropped into a hole in the road, causing him to fall from his bike and suffer injuries, including minor facial scarring.
The council was held responsible for failing to maintain the road to a safe standard, and the claim settled for £8,500, including compensation for the client’s injuries and the cost of a replacement bike.
When poor road maintenance puts cyclists at risk
Potholes and damaged road surfaces can be extremely dangerous for cyclists. What may seem like a minor defect to a driver can cause a rider to lose control, fall heavily and suffer significant injuries.
In this case, our client’s bicycle wheel descended into a hole in the road, causing him to come off his bike. He sustained injuries and minor scarring to the face, as well as damage that required the replacement of his bicycle.
Alastair pursued the claim and successfully established that the council had failed to maintain the road to a safe standard. The client was awarded £8,500 for his injuries and the cost of replacing his bike.
